Need a meta course in Moodle? Posted on August 14th, 2014 by

Moodle logoQ: What IS a meta course anyway?

A: A meta course is a single course that is created from multiple courses.

For example, if you teach two sections of an identical course – and don’t want to maintain two separate courses in Moodle – we can create a meta course that combines the two sections into a single course. The meta course will merge the class rosters from each individual section and place each section into individual groups in the meta course. Faculty can choose to use these groups to restrict access to activities or resources or not. Grouping the students also assists in the grading of sections, if you use Moodle’s online Grader Report. If you would like more information on meta courses or groups in Moodle, please email moodle@gustavus.edu.

Note: When a meta course is created, the individual sections are no longer visible to the students.
